Last weekend, Lauren and I had the incredible opportunity to travel to Detroit, Michigan for the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) Annual Conference — and what an inspiring few days it was!

From the moment we arrived, the welcoming nature of the conference and the excitement of the dance community surrounded us. The conference brought together educators, choreographers, and artists from all over the country, each passionate about advancing dance education and celebrating the Power of Movement.

Highlights from the Conference

Throughout the weekend, we attended a variety of sessions that left us inspired and full of new ideas. From innovative injury prevention workshops to discussions on inclusive teaching practices, each session reminded us why we do what we do, to help students grow not only as dancers, but as confident, expressive individuals.

We also had the chance to connect with other studio owners and teachers, share stories, and exchange tips on creating a welcoming studio culture, ways to keep performances exciting, and insights into why dance is always at the forefront of both physical, mental, and emotional health.. It’s always refreshing to be reminded that, no matter where we’re from, we all share the same joys and challenges in this beautiful art form.

Inspiration for the Season Ahead

Coming back from Detroit, we both felt recharged and ready to bring what we learned into our classes at On Pointe Arts. Conferences like NDEO are more than professional development, they’re reminders of how dance connects us all and how we need to be the catalyst in our own community to push each other to be the best that we can be.

We can’t wait to incorporate some of the techniques, themes, and teaching ideas we worked on into our programs this season and the years to come.

A Big Thank You

Thank you to everyone at NDEO for organizing such an incredible event and to the presenters who shared their wisdom and creativity. And, of course, thank you to our On Pointe family for supporting us as we continue to grow and learn and be the best dance home for you!

See you in Albuquerque next year!

ADCC Studio of Excellence

Every year we strive to teach our dancers not only how to be fantastic performers and technicians, but also how to strive to be better humans. We constantly are reminding them that winning is never more important than remembering that the other competitors are people too. It is my hope that in receiving this award, our dancers and their families realize that being ethical and kind is its own kind of win. One that is just as worthy as being the best dancer to hit the stage.
